Mailenable webmail fails with error: 0x80070003 Cannot read configuration file

Symptoms

Mailenable webmail fails with error:

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.
Detailed Error Information
Module IIS Web Core
Notification BeginRequest
Handler Not yet determined
Error Code 0x80070003
Config Error Cannot read configuration file
Config File \\\\?\\C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\.\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin\\NETWebMail\\web.config

Cause

There is an extra dot '.' in the path of webmail site in IIS configuration.

Resolution

  1. Check Mailenable configuration in registry. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Mail Enable\\Mail Enable hive and find Application Directory key.

  2. Application Directory key value should look as C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin .

If path has additional dots or slash as below:

    C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\.\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin

Or like this:

    C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin

Correct it to good path:

    C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin
  1. Then correct webmail configuration in IIS config file as well. Correct the same path in C:\\Windows\\System32\\inetsrv\\config\\applicationHost.config file, replacing:
    C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\.\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin

to

    C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\Mail Servers\\Mail Enable\\Bin

Also this changes could be done via IIS GUI manager by changing home directory for "webmail(mewebmail)\MEWebMail" application.
