    socket.error: [Errno 32] Broken pipe
    ERROR:f2bmng:Command '['/usr/bin/fail2ban-client', 'reload']' returned non-zero exit status 1

Cause

Fail2Ban package installed on the system is not compatible with Plesk. It was installed from a third-party repository, which is not supported by Plesk:

    # rpm -qa | grep fail
fail2ban-<version>.noarch

# rpm -qi fail2ban-<version>.noarch
Vendor: Fedora Project

Resolution

  1. Make a backup of Fail2ban configuration directory:

    # mkdir /etc/fail2ban_backup_folder
    # cp -r /etc/fail2ban/ /etc/fail2ban_backup_folder/
  2. Disable all third-party repositories that are present on the server: specify enabled = 0 in corresponding configuration files in /etc/yum/yum.repos.d/

  3. Reinstall Fail2Ban using Plesk installer

  4. Make sure correct package is installed:

    # rpm -qi fail2ban-<version>.noarch

    Vendor: Parallels (for Plesk 12.0)
    Vendor: Plesk (for Plesk 12.5)
  5. Enable third-party repositorires back: specify enabled = 1 in corresponding configuration files in /etc/yum/yum.repos.d/

  6. Start Fail2Ban service in Tools and Settings > Services Management

If Fail2Ban fails to start with the following error, contact Plesk support :

Error: Unable to make action: Unable to manage service by f2bmng: WARNING 'enabled' not defined in 'XXXXXX'. Using default one: 'false'
ERROR Found no accessible config files for 'XXXXXX' under /etc/fail2ban
