FTP not working: "Wrong passphrase for this key. Please try again."

Symptoms

Login to FTP fails with error:

Wrong passphrase for this key. Please try again.

Upon trying to FTP from localhost, I got the following error:

    [root@test]# ftp localhost
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost (127.0.0.1).

Name (localhost:root): username
Wrong passphrase for this key. Please try again.
Login failed.

Cause

Default certificate installed is corrupted. The certificate and its key-pair installed are not working or corrupted.

Resolution

Recreate certificate and private key via Plesk: Tools & Utilities -> SSL Certificates -> Add SSL Certificate . A new self-signed SSL certificate will be created in the server certificate repository.

After that assign new certificate in Plesk COntrol panel: via page Server -> IP Addresses -> "choose IP" by selecting the needed Certificate in the " SSL Certificate " drop-down menu.

As workaround, while SSL certificate does not work, fix the issue by commenting the lines with TLS certificate in the proftpd configuration file /etc/proftpd.conf .
