Plesk is not accessible: An unknown FastCGI error occurred

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.0 for Windows

Symptoms

When trying to log in to Plesk interface the following error appears:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
An unknown FastCGI error occured
Detailed Error Information
Module FastCgiModule
Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
Handler PleskEngine-FastCGI-php

Or Plesk shows the following error on access:

PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required 'auth.php' (include_path='C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\plib;C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\externals') in Unknown on line 0

According to process monitor there are no permissions given to psaadm user on %plesk_dir%\\admin\\bin\\ directory.

However, providing psaadm user with required permissions does not help.

Cause

psaadm user is a member of psaserv group in the system, but it was not supposed to be, psaserv group has "Deny" permissions on %plesk_dir%\\admin\\bin\\ that is why the issue appears.

Resolution

psaadm user should not be a member of any group, remove all groups from the list under Member of tab in the user settings
