Plesk shows 503 Service Unavailable: Cannot read configuration file

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.5 for Windows
  • Plesk 12.0 for Windows
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows
  • Plesk 9.x and below for Windows

Symptoms

Plesk site shows 503 Service Unavailable. In Event Viewer, the following error may appear:

    The worker process for application pool 'PleskControlPanel' encountered an error 'Cannot read configuration file ' trying to read configuration data from file '\\\\?\\<EMPTY>', line number '0'.  The data field contains the error code.

Cause

Plesk configuration file PleskControlPanel.config is corrupted in C:\inetpub\temp\appPools\PleskControlPanel .

Resolution

  1. Rename PleskControlPanel.config in C:\inetpub\temp\appPools\PleskControlPanel

  2. Use Plesk Reconfigurator->Repair Plesk Installation->Check Plesk Services .

    Hi Ehsan,

    This article is applicable if the issue occurs with Plesk site itself. However, in your case, the issue is related to a particular website.
