Plesk upgrade failed: init.php is part of Plesk distribution

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.x for Windows
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

Plesk is not accessible after upgrade:

The file init.php is part of Plesk distribution. It cannot be run outside of Plesk environment.

Plesk upgrade fails with the following error:

Installing packages
update configuration of MySQL 5.1 server...
MSI: Error! Critical action 'Updating MySQL Server component...' failed:

There are two MySQL instances to serve client databases. They are installed in the following directories:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\Databases\\MySQL\\data
C:\\ProgramData\\MySQL\\MySQL Server 5.1\\data

Cause

Active MySQL server instance is installed outside Plesk directory. By design, Plesk cannot upgrade MySQL services installed outside %plesk_dir% .

Resolution

  1. Stop the Start the instance of MySQL server installed outside Plesk directory. It can be done via services.msc utility.

  2. Start an instance of MySQL server installed inside Plesk directory.

  3. Start the upgrade once again.
