When I set custom button's target to be a HTTPS page, it is still fetched via HTTP

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.5 for Windows
  • Plesk 11.5 for Linux
  • Plesk 12.0 for Windows

Symptoms

I have set up a custom button.

I want a page that it points to to be served over HTTPS just like the rest of my Plesk panel.

However, when I check the request in browser's debugger, I see that it is served via HTTP instead:

Cause

There can be several possible reasons:

  • The page/domain you specified does not have SSL certificates and HTTPS set up.
  • The page/domain you specified is being redirected to HTTP binding.

Plesk only performs request to the specified address, it is not responsible for what user receives from the specified page.

Resolution

Make sure that the address you specified in URL does not redirect to HTTP :

Redir

Sometimes, domains are set up in a way where www. prefix has HTTPS protocol set up properly ( no rediection to HTTP ). As a possible solution, add www. in front of the URL and check if the redirection stops.
