"dnsmng failed: Unknown error 0x80131500" when try to update domain DNS settings

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.5 for Windows
  • Plesk 12.0 for Windows

Symptoms

Can not update DNS settings or domain, I get the following error:

    Error: Unable to remove domain: Error during domain.tld updateZone: dnsmng failed: Unknown error 0x80131500 (COM Interop Error 80131500, Description: Management error: ErrorCode: ProviderLoadFailure, Details: , Exception: System.Management.ManagementException: Provider load failure at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode) at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext() at WMIMsDNS.Provider.SetAllowRecursion(Boolean val)) at allow recursion

Cause

MS DNS server is not running or installed, but mark as default DNS server in Plesk.

Resolution

  1. Check default DNS server in Plesk Control panel->Tools and Utlities->Server Components ->DNS server.

  2. If MS DNS server is used as default one in Plesk, make sure that MS DNS server is installed and it is running. If MS DNS server is not installed, switch DNS server to BIND in Plesk Control panel->Tools and Utlities->Server Components .
