530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible

Symptoms

Additional FTP user unable connect to the server, getting below error.

    FTP Error: 530 User cannot log in, home directory inaccessible

Cause

FTP authorization rules were not set for Read permissions to All Users in Default FTP Site .

Resolution

Add this rule by following below mentioned steps:

  1. Login to the server via remote desktop connection as an administator user.

  2. Open IIS ( Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Service )

  3. Double click on Sites

  4. Double click on Default FTP Site (ip address)

  5. Double click on FTP Authorization Rules

  6. Click on Add Allow Rule... link (right top corner)

  7. Select the option of All Users

  8. Select Read permissions check box

  9. Click on OK button to submit the changes.

After doing above steps restart Microsoft FTP Services by following the below mentioned steps:

  1. Click on Start > Administrative Tools > Services

  2. Select the service named Microsoft FTP service

  3. Click on Restart link
