Update Protected Directory user failed: Site 'some.domain.tld' does not exist

Symptoms

Site reconfiguration failed with:

Error: ProtDirUser_IIS::update() failed: Update Protected Directory #34 user failed: Site 'some.domain.tld' does not exist
at (WebServerManager::updateProtectedUrlUser line 1027)
at execute console command --update-protected-url-user(vconsoleapp::start line 100)
at execute "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\bin64\\websrvmng.exe" --update-protected-url-user "--vhost-name=some.domain.tld" "--path=plesk-stat" "--login=someuser" "--new-password=*"(vconsoleapp::run line 117)
(Error code 1)

Cause

Site is absent in IIS

Resolution

  1. Open IIS manager
  2. Manually create a site
  3. Add virtual directory plesk-stat for the site
  4. In Plesk, remove directory protection from plesk-stat in Home->Domains-> some.domain.tld -> Password-Protected Directories
    or uncheck "Web statistics (Protect access to your web statistics with your FTP username and password)" in Home->Domains-> some.domain.tld -> Hosting-Settings
