Unable to start bind: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'

Symptoms

Unable to start BIND, the following error is shown by journalctl -xn command:

    named[24687]: using 2 UDP listeners per interface
named[24687]: using up to 4096 sockets
named[24687]: loading configuration from '/etc/named.conf'
named[24687]: /etc/named.conf:49: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'
named[24687]: /etc/named.conf:57: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'
named[24687]: /etc/named.conf:64: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'
named[24687]: /etc/named.conf:71: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'
named[24687]: /etc/named.conf:78: undefined ACL 'common-allow-transfer'
named[24687]: loading configuration: failure
named[24687]: exiting (due to fatal error)

Cause

ACL is not defined in named configuration file.

Resolution

  1. Backup original /etc/named.conf file

    # cp /etc/named.conf /etc/named.conf_back
  2. Open /etc/named.conf using text editor

    # vi /etc/named.conf
  3. In the end of the file put the following:

    acl common-allow-transfer {
    none;
    };
  4. Manually start BIND:

    # service bind9 start
  5. Update DNS zones in Plesk if needed: Plesk > Subscriptions > example.com > DNS Settings > click on some record > Ok > Update .
