Cannot change mailbox password.

Symptoms

  1. No quick access icon for Webmail in the Plesk Panel. There is no Webmail icon.

  2. Attempt to change mailbox password fails with the below error:

    Unable to set password: Unable create account with ID "486"

Cause

Such issue is caused by database inconsistency. Missing entry in accounts table for corresponding email address.

Resolution

  1. Check affected mail boxes, by querying Plesk database:

    mysql> select id,mail_name,dom_id,account_id from mail where account_id not in (select id from accounts);
    +----+-----------+--------+------------+
    | id | mail_name | dom_id | account_id |
    +----+-----------+--------+------------+
    | 3 | testmail2 | 1 | 486 |
    +----+-----------+--------+------------+
    1 row in set (0.00 sec)
  2. Create missing entry in accounts table manually:

    mysql> insert accounts values (486, 'plain','');
    Query OK, 1 row affected (0.07 sec)
  3. Reset password for affected mail box manually in control panel web interface, or with command line utility:

    [root@server ~]# /usr/local/psa/bin/mail -u testmail2@domain.tld -passwd '<new_password>'
    SUCCESS: Update of mailname 'testmail2@domain.tld' complete
