Question
How to access webmail after migration if the DNS records are still pointing to the old server?
Answer
Individual devices can be directed to the new server by mapping the webmail domain to the server's IP address in the hosts file, like this:
203.0.113.2 webmail.example.com
The location of the hosts file is different for each OS:
Note: Administrative access may be necessary to edit this file
- Windows:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts - MacOS:
/private/etc/hosts - Linux:
/etc/hosts
