After several attempts to open a website it becomes unavailable with the following error:
This site can’t be reached
Apache default page is shown
Other websites from the same server become unavailable with the same error too.
From another device, all websites from the server can be opened without any errors.
The https://www.geoscreenshot.com/capture tool also shows that websites from the server are available.
The issue resolves on its own in several minutes (usually in 10 minutes) and the initially affected website can be opened again (as also as other websites from the same server) without any errors.
The following error can be found in the
CONFIG_TEXT: fail2ban.actions : NOTICE [plesk-apache] Ban 203.0.113.2
where 203.0.113.2 is the IP address of the device from which the connection to the website is tried to be established.
The following error is present in the
CONFIG_TEXT: [access_compat:error] [pid 395] [client 203.0.113.2:32991] AH01797: client denied by server configuration: /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/img/cms/index.png, referer: https://www.example.com/
.htaccessfile exists in the
/var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/folder or in one of its subfolders.
Deprecated detectives are present in the
.htaccess file, which triggers errors in Apache log, causing Fail2Ban blocking the IP address.
Connect to the server via SSH.
.htaccessfiles inside the domain home folder:
# find /var/www/vhosts/example.com/ -name ".htaccess"
Review the content of each found
.htaccessfile regarding the deny directives:
