How to protect the website access with a password?
Setting the password protected directory
at Domains > Password-Protected Directories does not work and site still accessible.
According to the Plesk documentation , the Password-Protected Directories feature is used to protect the directories inside the Document Root (usually
), thus it cannot be used to protect
As a workaround:
- Log in to Plesk server via RDP
- Go to IIS Manager > WIN-SERVERNAME > Sites > example.com > Authentication .
- Disable Anonymous Authentication .
- Enable Basic Authentication .
After this, the access to the website will be possible with any Windows system user or account which has an access to the domain's Document Root directory (
) on the file system. Including Plesk Subscription's system user defined at Domains > example.com > Web Hosting Access .
