Why is Tomcat showing as running service in the process list if it has been stopped in Plesk interface?
# ps aux grep tomcat
tomcat7 741 0.0 1.XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-5640 ? Sl Nov26 2:53 /usr/lib/jvm/default-java/bin/java -Djava.util.logging.config.file=/var/lib/tomcat7/conf/logging.properties -Djava.util.logging.manager=org.apache.juli.ClassLoaderLogManager -Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx128m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/usr/share/tomcat7/endorsed -classpath /usr/share/tomcat7/bin/bootstrap.jar:/usr/share/tomcat7/bin/tomcat-juli.jar -Dcatalina.base=/var/lib/tomcat7 -Dcatalina.home=/usr/share/tomcat7 -Djava.io.tmpdir=/tmp/tomcat7-tomcat7-tmp org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap start
Several Tomcat services are installed on the server.
tomcat.service - Apache Tomcat Web Application Container
is managed by Plesk and can be stopped and started via Plesk GUI.
All other tomcat processes are not managed by Plesk and could not be stopped and started via Plesk GUI.
To check status of Tomcat service managed by Plesk use:
# service tomcat status
and use the following command to check status of other Tomcat service, for example Tomcat7:
# service tomcat7 status
