How to migrate Plesk without source root user password?
Plesk Migrator requires root access to the source server.
If the root password for the source server cannot be obtained, it's also possible to run migration with ssh key authentication:
If remote root login isn't enabled (Ex: Ubuntu, Debian), do the following on the source server:
- Connect to the server via SSH
PermitRootLoginparameter to yes in
- Restart SSH service:
# service sshd restart
Once a remote login is enabled, follow next steps:
- In target server generate ssh key with the following command:
# ssh-keygen -t rsa
During the key pair generation, specify the directory for storing it (usually it is
/root/.ssh/id_rsa) and do not enter a passphrase.
- From target server, copy the public key to the source server using the command:
# ssh-copy-id <user name>@<IP address>
<root user name>is the name of the user with UID=0 (usually it is
<IP address>is the IP address of the source server.
