Question
How to remove an SSL certificate in Plesk?
Answer
Note: Make sure that the certificate is not being selected to secure other services (Domain, Mail, IP address, Panel). It is not possible to remove a certificate if this is being selected.
Click on a section to expand
-
Go to Domains > example.com > Hosting Settings > Set Certificate to Not selected > Click OK to apply changes:
-
Go to Domains > example.com > Mail Settings > Set SSL/TLS certificate for webmail and SSL/TLS certificate for Mail to Not selected > Click OK to apply changes:
-
Go to Domains > example.com > SSL/TLS Certificates > Advanced Settings > Select the certificate > Make sure that there is a zero in the Used column > Click on Remove:
-
Go to Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Make sure the certificate is not being used to secure Plesk or the Mail service
- If any issues persist, make sure that the certificate is not being selected to secure other services or domains.
-
Go to Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Click on [Change] next to Certificate for securing Plesk > Choose another certificate > OK
-
Go to Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Click on [Change] next to Certificate for securing mail > Choose another certificate > OK
-
Go to Tools & Settings > IP Addresses > Click on each IP Address > Change SSL/TLS certificate to another certificate > OK
- Go to Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Select another certificate > Click Make Default
-
Go to Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Select the certificate > Make sure that there is a zero in the Used column > Click on Remove
-
If any issues persist, make sure that the certificate is not being selected to secure other services or domains.

Hi!
I unfortunatly add a certificat to the plesk mail server, following plesk sugestions. I want to remove oit as with wildcard certificat i had better service for my clients. Triied your suggestion but it does not work, i have this message:
Unable to remove SSL/TLS certificates.
One of the certificates you are going to delete is used for securing the mail server.
How can i handle that?
Thx for your help!
@Frederic please take a look at the following article https://support.plesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009683020-Unable-to-remove-old-default-certificate-after-setting-a-new-default-certificate-Unable-to-remove-SSL-TLS-certificates-One-of-the-certificates-you-are-going-to-delete-is-used-for-securing-the-mail-server. Like Frederic, I am unable to remove a certificate from our server (Windows Server 2012 R2). I have a Lets Encrypt certificate which expired a few months ago, and which I would like to remove. It is listed under Tools/Settings -> SSL/TLS Certificates only. It is not listed in the SSL/TLS Certificates lists under any subscriptions or domains in Plesk. It is not used for securing Plesk or mail, nor for securing any domains. As far as I can tell, it is not used at all.
But the Tools/Settings -> SSL/TLS Certificates list claims that it has a Used count of 1, so I cannot delete it. I get the following error message when I try:
Unable to remove SSL/TLS certificates.
One or several certificates are assigned to the IP addresses/domains.
I cannot find a way to figure out WHERE this stray certificate is being used. I’ve looked through every subscription, domain and subdomain there is, and it is not used anywhere there. The only certificate in use anywhere is a (later) wildcard Lets Encrypt certificate which should be – and is – used for everything. On the server itself, when I open IIS Manager -> [server name] -> Server Certificates, this certificate does not appear on the list, so I cannot troubleshoot or remove it from that end either.
This is clearly not the same issue as Frederic’s, though the error message is similar, and the article linked to by Julian does not address my issue.
How can I get rid of this certificate?
