Unable to resync migrated subscriptions: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte

Applicable to:

Symptoms

When trying to re-sync a subscription, the following error appears:

Error Failed to check that specified source servers accounts are built-in Windows administrators
Cause: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xf3 in position 47: ordinal not in range(128)
That is a critical error, migration was stopped.

Cause

RPC agent is not running on a source server.

Resolution

  1. Download RPC agent:

    Via Plesk:
    • Go to Plesk Migrator interface under Tools & Settings > Migration & Transfer Manager .
    • Click Start a New Migration .
    • In the Setup section select Manual and click RPC Agent installation package link.
    • Click Cancel .

    Via a command prompt:
    • Execute the command below via a command prompt:
      "c:\Program Files (x86)\Plesk\admin\plib\modules\panel-migrator\backend\plesk-migrator.bat" get-rpc-agent-path
    • Copy run-panel-migrator-rpc-agent.exe form C:\Program Files (x86)\Plesk\var\modules\panel-migrator\thirdparties directory to the source server (other folder).
    • Run run-panel-migrator-rpc-agent.exe on the source server. (Auto create folders C:\panel_migrator )
  2. Upload RPC agent to the source server and launch with the administrative privileges.

  3. Reload source data at Tools & Settings > Migration & Transfer Manager > 203.0.113.2 > Reload source data and re-sync necessary subscriptions.
