Let's encrypt does nothing while trying to obtain a certificate: .well-known permission denied error

Symptoms

After accepting to create a certificate from Let's encrypt to the domain, Plesk does nothing, it returns back to the domain.

Additionally, the following error may be shown:

PLESK_ERROR: Error: Let's Encrypt SSL certificate installation failed: filemng failed: filemng: Error occurred during /bin/mkdir command

Modifying /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/panel.ini file to enable debug mode , and then one of the following errors is shown in /var/log/plesk/panel.log :

CONFIG_TEXT: stderr: filemng: Cannot open destination file '/var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/.well-known/acme-challenge/.htaccess.hU8dyF'
System error 13: Permission denied

CONFIG_TEXT: [extension/letsencrypt] Cannot renew certificate on domain example.com with error: filemng failed: filemng: Error occurred during /bin/mkdir command

Cause

.well-known folder is owned by non-subscription user.

Resolution

Connect to the server using SSH and remove .well-known folder from httpdocs as root:

# rm -rf /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/.well-known

Try to request a certificate again.
