Unable to apply default SSL certificate on Plesk Multi Server

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx 17.5 for Linux

Symptoms

A newly created SSL certificate is not applied to the Plesk web interface.

If the old certificate was deleted, the following error is displayed in the Plesk web interface:

Unable to generate the web server configuration file on the host <example.com> because of the following errors:

Template_Exception: Can not restart web server:

After the attempt to generate the configuration file, Apache will not start.

Cause

This is Plesk Multi Server bug #EXTPMS-1341 : Cannot set default certificate on the server. It will will be fixed in one of the next Plesk updates.

Resolution

As a workaround, manually create a certificate with the same name as in <IfModule mod_ssl.c> block of /etc/httpd/conf/plesk.conf.d/server.conf file.
