Plesk cannot start: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socke

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

  1. Plesk cannot start with the error in systemd log

Unable to connect to Plesk Database: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

  2. In /var/log/mysql/error.log log file the following error

2017-04-09T18:06:20.999987Z 0 [ERROR] unknown variable 'SET GLOBAL show_compatibility_56=ON'

Cause

Misconfiguration of `my.cnf` file

Resolution

Find and review directives in my.cnf file.

RHEL/CentOS

/etc/my.cnf

Debian/Ubuntu

/etc/mysql/my.cnf

In this example SET GLOBAL show_compatibility_56=ON directive has incorrect syntax for MySQL 5.7, it should be show_compatibility_56=ON
