Let's Encrypt extension fails to upgrade after migration: Error occurred during /bin/cp command

  • #PMT-3587 "When migrating from Plesk Onyx, extension files stored in the “/usr/local/psa/var/modules/” directory were assigned incorrect ownership."

Symptoms

  • Upgrade of Let's Encrypt Extension from 2.0.1-24 to 2.0.2-29 ( Extensions > Updates > Let's Encrypt > Upgrade ) fails:
    Installation of extension has failed

    filemng: Error occurred during /bin/cp command.
  • Following entries in /var/log/plesk/panel/log :
    ERR [util_exec] proc_close() failed ['/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/filemng' 'psaadm' 'cp' '-r' '/usr/local/psa/tmp/moduleAvqHNZ/var/.' '/usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/'] with exit code [1]
    ERR [1] '/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/filemng' 'psaadm' 'cp' '-r' '/usr/local/psa/tmp/moduleAvqHNZ/var/.' '/usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/' failed with code 1.

    stdout:
    cp: cannot create regular file <E2><80><98>/usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/./.keep<E2><80><99>: Permission denied
    cp: cannot create regular file <E2><80><98>/usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt/./cli.ini.sample<E2><80><99>: Permission denied
    filemng: Error occurred during /bin/cp command.

    stderr:
    filemng: Error occurred during /bin/cp command.

Cause

This is bug with ID PMT-3587 which is planned to be fixed in future Plesk updates.

Resolution

As a workaround change permissions manually:

# cd /usr/local/psa/var/modules/letsencrypt
# chown psaadm.psaadm .keep
# chown psaadm.psaadm cli.ini.sample
