Applicable to:
- Plesk for Linux
Symptoms
Unable to establish a secure connection over FTPS to the Plesk server with the hostname example.com
. One of the following warning messages could be found using the FileZilla FTP client:
CONFIG_TEXT: The server's certificate is unknown. Please carefully examine the certificate to make sure the server can be trusted
CONFIG_TEXT: Certificate expired!
Cause
The certificate for securing Plesk is not installed or not valid.
Resolution
As the certificate used for securing Plesk is also used for FTPS connection to the server, perform the following:
-
Install/renew a certificate for securing Plesk.
Note: The connection will be secured only if the connection goes to
example.com
. If the connection goes to any domain likedomain.tld
then a multidomain SSL certificate must be used for securing Plesk.
Additional Information
For Plesk for Windows check the following article.

This solution doesn't work, the server's certificate is update but FTP still show the expire certificate.
This wont work and is in my opinion quite misleading with https://support.plesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002201974-Is-it-possible-to-install-a-certificate-to-secure-FTP-for-a-specific-domain-on-Plesk-server-
Hello Thorsten Bunt,
By default, the certificate which is used for securing Plesk in Tools & Settings > SSL/TLS Certificates > Certificate for securing Plesk is also used for all FTPS connections to the server. So when this certificate expires, the issue with establishing a connection over FTPS may appear and it is required to update the certificate for securing Plesk as per this article to address it.
