Cannot activate proxy.plesk or proxy_fcgi.plesk modules

Symptoms

If enable proxy.plesk or proxy_fcgi.plesk module Apache crashes with the following error:

httpd: Syntax error on line 56 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Syntax error on line 78 of /etc/httpd/conf.modules.d/00-base.conf: Can't locate API module structure `proxy.plesk_module' in file /usr/lib64/httpd/modules/mod_proxy.plesk.so: /usr/lib64/httpd/modules/mod_proxy.plesk.so: undefined symbol: proxy.plesk_module

Cause

This is Plesk bug with ID #PPPM-5490 which has been fixed in Plesk Onyx 17.5.

Resolution

Go to Tools & Settings > Apache Web Server and disable proxy.plesk and/or proxy_fcgi.plesk modules.

Use mod_proxy_fcgi.so and mod_proxy.so modules instead.
