Plesk is not accessible with 502 Bad Gateway: cannot get uid for user 'psaadm'

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.0 for Linux

Symptoms

  1. Plesk is not accessible:

    502 Bad Gateway

  2. sw-engine fails to start:

    # service sw-engine start
Starting sw-engine-fpm: [20-Mar-2017 13:38:09] ERROR: [pool plesk] cannot get uid for user 'psaadm'
  3. There is no psaadm user in /etc/passwd :

    # cat /etc/passwd | grep psaadm

Cause

Plesk administrator user psaadm is missing on the server.

Resolution

  1. Restore psaadm user using the bootstrapper of the same version as Plesk has (example for Plesk 12):

    # /usr/local/psa/bootstrapper/pp12.0.18-bootstrapper/bootstrapper.sh prep-install

  2. Restore group ownership for psaadm :

    # usermod -G psaadm,psaserv,swkey-data,psasb,lock-manager psaadm
