Why log entries in
cover less than a month despite all archives are present?
This happens because of the logrotate settings in
/usr/local/psa/etc/logrotate.conf. According to it, the maillog files are rotated either weekly or if they exceed 10 megabytes in size.
Compressed files are smaller in size:
# ll -h /var/log/ | grep maillog.processed.
-rw-r----- 1 root root 801K Aug 29 04:12 maillog.processed.1.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 826K Aug 25 04:04 maillog.processed.2.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 980K Aug 22 04:04 maillog.processed.3.gz
But this does not give an estimation of the real uncompressed size of the log files.
For instance, the file
takes more than 10 megabytes after decompression:
# gunzip maillog.processed.1.gz
# ll /var/log/maillog.processed.1
-rw-r----- 1 root root 11M Aug 29 04:12 maillog.processed.1
In this case, the file was forcefully rotated as it exceeded 10 megabytes before the scheduled rotation, and previous log file backup was erased.
