Unable to update licence for extension: unable to update, license key is expired

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux
  • Plesk for Windows

Symptoms

There is an e-mail notification sent to Plesk admin:

Unable to update EXT.01234567.0001: an error occurred while processing your key. You can try to retrieve the key manually in Plesk (Tools & Settings > License Management) or let Plesk try to update it in the next 24 hours. If you do not want to receive this notification any more, remove this key from Plesk.
The license key is expired. Some features can be unavailable. Please contact your hosting provider.

Or this e-mail:

Attention,
The update of Plesk has failed.
You can download Plesk Installer logs at the following link: https://example.com:8443/admin/update/log/id/*
Contact your Hosting Provider for support assistance. This message was sent automatically by Plesk Installer.

In Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys key number for particular extension licenses differs from one that is connected to the paid license.

Daily task fails to Update Keys with an error in /usr/local/psa/admin/log/panel.ini:

[YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS] ERR [panel] KeyUpdate Result code: 2 Unspecified error
[YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS] ERR [panel] KeyUpdate Result desc: License key EXT.01234567.0001 is expired

Cause

Plesk trial license was installed initially. All Plesk editions include the additional license for DNSsec, Docker and Multiserver extensions by default. After the server was re-activated with the paid license, DNSSec additional license remained uploaded in Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys

Resolution

Trial licence key EXT.01234567.0001 should be manually removed in: Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys > (choose required extension key) - Remove .

Then retrieve the main Plesk key in Tools & Settings > License Management > Retrieve Keys.
