What is a WordPress multisite test network?
WordPress Multisite allows you to create a network of subsites on top of a single WordPress installation. Each subsite might represent a different department of a single company, a separate topical section of a larger website, or be an individual website for one of your customers. Examples of websites that use the multisite feature are BBC America and WordPress.com .
The main benefit of using the multisite network is the ease of management. Since all sites are running on the same WordPress engine, it is easy to manage and update them all.
By default, WordPress has two options to build a network:
- Subdirectories for satellite sites.
- Subdomains for satellite sites.
These options are simple and well documented in the WordPress Codex.
However, it is also possible to span the network across many domains . This requires the use of WordPress MU Domain Mapping plug-in.
