Warning during mailbox creation in mail client: This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Windows
  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

When creating a mailbox in a mail client using auto-configuration, warning appears like as follows:

The certificate for this server is invalid

Viewing this certificate shows that it is assigned to example.com .

Cause

Plesk uses SSL certificate issued for example.com which is the server's hostname.

Resolution

There are tree ways to resolve the issue:

  1. Auto-configuration specifies a domain's name for incoming/outgoing connections. Manually set server's hostname during mailbox creation instead of domain's name.

  2. Confirm Security Exception. The certificate will be applied. However, it is necessary to be sure that the certificate is secure and valid.

  3. In DNS settings of the domain set MX record value as <hostname> instead of mail.<domain> .
