Renaming of the domain fails: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost'

Symptoms

It is not possible to rename domain. The following error is shown in Plesk UI:

SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost'

The following error can be found in Plesk panel.log with debug mode enabled:

DEBUG [panel] Step failed 'applyRenameInWebMail'. SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Cause

Integration with MySQL database server on localhost is broken in Home > Tools&Settings > Database Servers and Plesk cannot update databases of webmail applications (Horde/Roundcube)

Resolution

1. Go to Home > Tools&Settings > Database Servers > MySQL localhost > Settings

2. Connect to the MySQL server using valid password for admin MySQL user.
