Plesk Installer hangs: The CD/DVD sources were detected in APT sources list

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

Installation of Plesk 12.5 on a clean server using Plesk Installer hangs on the Installing packages stage. The following records could be found in the /var/log/plesk/install/autoinstaller3.log file:

Installing packages
Warning: The CD/DVD sources were detected in APT sources list.
This may cause Plesk Installer to hang when APT tries to install something from the CD/DVD.
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
The following extra packages will be installed:
..........
Suggested packages:
..........
Recommended packages:
..........
The following NEW packages will be installed:
..........
The following packages will be upgraded:
..........

After that, no output is produced by Plesk Installer.

Cause

Record about the installation CD/DVD (which is not mounted on the system) is present in the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

Resolution

  1. Find and kill all the hanged processes of the Plesk Installer and APT.

  2. Remove records related to CD/DVD from /etc/apt/sources.list .

    By default Debian 8 /etc/apt/sources.list file contains the following records:

    deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie main contrib non-free

    deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free

    deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
  3. Restart Plesk installer.
