All subdomians are created with their own DNS zones

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

  • All subdomians are created with their own DNS zones.

  • The "own zones" mode is enabled for subdomains on the server:

    # plesk db show misc | grep own
    | subdomain_own_zones | true

Cause

The "own zones" mode is enabled for subdomains on the server.

This mode means that all subdomains are created with their own zone:

# less /var/named/run-root/var/test.example.com
# grep check /var/named/run-root/var/example.com
test.example.com.  IN NS  ns2.test.example.com.
ns2.test.example.com.  IN A  203.0.113.2
test.example.com.  IN NS  ns1.test.example.com.
ns1.test.example.com.  IN A  203.0.113.2

Resolution

To switch the mode to parent zone (create all subdomains with only A record in parent zone), execute the following command:

# plesk bin server_pref --update -subdomain-dns-zone parent
