Plesk is slow: mail services generate very high workload

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Windows
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

Plesk control panel is very slow and taking much time to open. Also, clients can't connect to databases most of the time, webmail is slow.

The server is working slowly due to CPU and disk drive workload that is almost at 100%.
The most of workload is generated by mail server processes.
Mail Enable MTA log ( for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Mail Enable\Logging\MTA\MTA-Activity-XXXXXX.log) shows that the server is trying to deliver a message in the loop o the same recipient address:

Cause

Mail server is trying to deliver a message to non-existent user in the loop.

Resolution

1. Open Mail Enable Real Time Activity Monitor and proceed to MTA log

2. Find the recipient mail address with numerous deliver attempts

3. Go to Plesk > Domains > example.com > Mail Settings and set proper catch-all address for messages with non-existing users or set Reject for such messages.
