Statistics for all domains is not updated automatically

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

  • Statistics is not updated automatically but can be recalculated manually with /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/statistics --calculate-all .
  • Cron service shows the following error:
    # service cron status
    ● cron.service - Regular background program processing daemon
      Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/cron.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Fr 2017-01-13 11:21:54 CET; 11s ago
        Docs: man:cron(8)
     Main PID: 6734 (cron)
      CGroup: /system.slice/cron.service
              └─6734 /usr/sbin/cron -f

systemd[1]: Started Regular background program processing daemon.
    cron[6734]: (CRON) INFO (pidfile fd = 3)
cron[6734]: Error: bad username; while reading /etc/crontab
cron[6734]: (*system*) ERROR (Syntax error, this crontab file will be ignored)
cron[6734]: (CRON) INFO (Skipping @reboot jobs -- not system startup)
  • /etc/crontab contains a custom script which is executed not by not existent user, e.g. python :
     0 2 * * * python /root/backup.pyc
  • There is no python user on the server:
    # grep python /etc/passwd
    #

Cause

Syntax error in /etc/crontab . Script should be launched by non-existent user.

Resolution

  1. Comment the line with the custom script in /etc/crontab as shown below:
    # cat /etc/crontab
    .....
    # 0 2 * * * python /root/backup.py

    and restart cron service:
    # service cron restart
  2. In case the script should be functioning, recreate a task through Plesk:
Tools & Settings > Scheduled Tasks > Add Task
