Scheduled Tasks or domains menu is empty: SimpleXMLElement::__construct()

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

Symptoms

Scheduled Tasks or Domains menu is empty. It is not possible to create new one. While accessing Plesk Home page, the following messages are shown in /var/log/plesk/panel.log :

SimpleXMLElement::__construct(): id>45</filter-id><id>45</id><data><gen_info><cr_date>2014-04-23</cr_date><name>g;
File: /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/pm/ApiRpc.php,
Line: 73 PHP Warning: SimpleXMLElement::__construct(): ^;

ERR [1] PHP Warning: SimpleXMLElement::__construct(): ^;

Line: 73

Cause

Incorrect collation is set for MySQL. 'Scheduled Tasks' or 'Domains' table has tasks with umlauts or other symbols that can not be processed properly with a current collation. Plesk is using utf8 as default collation. latin1 collation set as default for MySQL in /etc/my.cnf can cause issues with umlauts and other similar symbols.

Resolution

Rename all the tasks descriptions/names manually in psa.ScheduledTasks or domains table removing umlauts. Set correct collation in /etc/my.cnf if required.
