Cannot access Plesk Backup Manager: Failed to read data from stream Process output

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux
  • Plesk Onyx 17.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  • Cannot access Plesk Backup Manager. It hangs and ends up with error page with the following error:

Internal Error: Failed to parse response. Reason: Failed to read data from stream Process output
    PMMConnector.php
    831
  • pmmcli --get-tasks-list process loads CPU at 100%:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
    16825 root 20 0 181m 72m 4748 R 97.9 0.4 6:08.70 /usr/bin/python -Estt /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/pmmcli --get-tasks-list
  • Strace utility shows that the process cannot access files:

11:22:49 read(6, "tory\n/bin/tar: OLD/httpsdocs/ampitup/sites/default/files/uploads/images/carousel_slides/title_graphics/logo_robotics.png: Cannot stat: No such file or directory\n/bin/tar: OLD/httpsdocs/ampitup/sites/default/files/uploads/images/carousel_slides/title_graphics/titlegraphic.png: Cannot stat: No such file or directory\n/bin/tar: OLD/httpsdocs/ampitup/sites/default/files/uploads/images/carousel_slides/title_graphics/titleslide.png: Cannot stat: No such file or directory\n/bin/tar:

The mentioned directory is missing from the file system.

Cause

Plesk Backup Manager created a list of files to back up, but at the moment when a backup has started, some cached files were deleted.

Resolution

  • Kill the pmmcli --get-tasks-list process:

    # ps fax | grep get-tasks-list
    # kill -9 <PID>

  • Delete Plesk Backup Manager tasks database

    # mv /usr/local/psa/PMM/tasks/tasks.db /usr/local/psa/PMM/tasks.db.old

  • Clean Plesk Backup Manager temporary files:

    # grep "DUMP_TMP" /etc/psa/psa.conf
    DUMP_TMP_D /tmp
    # rm -rf /usr/local/psa/PMM/tmp/*
