Symptoms

  • Site is showing error:

    HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
    
    The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

    Config Error Lock violation

  • The following error can be found if failed request tracing is enabled:

  • Prohibit the ability to override handlers via web.config is enabled in Tools&Settings > Security.

  • Windows 2008R2 is used.

Cause

Prohibit the ability to override handlers via web.config lock custom handler section in web.config.

Resolution

  1. Untick Prohibit the ability to override handlers via web.config in Tools&Settings > Security.

  2. To apply settings reconfigured domains like:

    "%plesk_cli%\\repair.exe" --reconfigure-web-site -web-site-name example.com
    
  3. Create backup of c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config and open it.

    3.1. Find

    <location path="example.com">
        
    <system.webServer>

    3.2. Find

    <handlers lockElements="">
    

    3.3. Remove attribute lockElements=""
