Scheduled backup does not run at the scheduled time

Applicable to:

  • Plesk for Linux

Symptoms

Scheduled Backup does not run at scheduled time without any errors.

In /var/log/syslog cron task were running with backupmng process as scheduled (/etc/cron.d/plesk-backup-manager-task).

There is one or several hanged processes that left from the previous backup task (today is not May 17):

root@plesk:~# ps awufx | grep backup
root      4866  0.0  0.0  20064  936 pts/1    S+  10:45  0:00          \_ grep backup
root      1126  0.0  0.0  4408  416 ?        Ss  May17  0:00      \_ /bin/sh -c [ -x /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng ] && /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng >/dev/null 2>&1
psaadm    1128  0.0  0.0  30920  924 ?        S    May17  0:00          \_ /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng
psaadm    1129  0.0  0.0  30916  204 ?        S    May17  0:16              \_ /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng
psaadm    1130  0.0  0.0 287452  1200 ?        SN  May17  0:00                  \_ /usr/bin/sw-engine -c /opt/psa/admin/conf/php.ini /opt/psa/admin/plib/backup/scheduled_backup.php --dump 2

Cause

Scheduled Backup process didn't start backup process because there were stuck processes.

Resolution

1. Find backupmng processes and get their PID:

root@plesk:~# ps awufx | grep backup
root      4866  0.0  0.0  20064  936 pts/1    S+  10:45  0:00          \_ grep backup
root      1126  0.0  0.0  4408  416 ?        Ss  May17  0:00      \_ /bin/sh -c [ -x /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng ] && /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng >/dev/null 2>&1
psaadm    1128  0.0  0.0  30920  924 ?        S    May17  0:00          \_ /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng
psaadm    1129  0.0  0.0  30916  204 ?        S    May17  0:16              \_ /opt/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng
psaadm    1130  0.0  0.0 287452  1200 ?        SN  May17  0:00                  \_ /usr/bin/sw-engine -c /opt/psa/admin/conf/php.ini /opt/psa/admin/plib/backup/scheduled_backup.php --dump 2

2. Kill these processes with PID:

root@plesk:~# kill -9 1126 1128 1129 1130

3. Wait for the next Scheduled Backup to start
