Error while installing Let's Encrypt certificate on Umbraco CMS: Could not connect to example.com

1. The following error occurs on an attempt to install Let's Encrypt certificate on a domain:

PLESK_ERROR: Error: Let's Encrypt SSL certificate installation failed: Challenge marked as invalid. Details: Could not connect to example.com

2. No misconfiguration according to the following article:

Unable to install Let's Encrypt certificate: Challenge marked as invalid

3. Ubmraco CMS is used on the domain.

4. The following line is presented in web.config file:

CONFIG_TEXT: <appSettings>
...
<add key="umbracoReservedPaths" value="~/umbraco,~/install/" />
...
</appSettings>

Cause

Umbraco CMS specific, all requests are handled on CMS side.

Resolution

In order to give Umbraco a possibility to ignore Let's Encrypt queries, connect to the server using RDP and adjust the following line in web.config file in %plesk_vhosts%\example.com\httpdocs\web.config (refer to Umbraco documentation for more info):

CONFIG_TEXT: <appSettings>
...
<add key="umbracoReservedPaths" value="~/umbraco,~/install/ ,~/.well-known" />
...
</appSettings>
