mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

Symptoms

  • FastCGI is not working, FPM works
  • in website's error.log :

- in server wide Apache error log:

    # tail -fn0 /var/log/apache2/error.log
failed to open log file /var/log/apache2/suexec.log
fopen: Permission denied

Cause

Filesystem /var/www where /var/www/cgi-bin/cgi_wrapper/cgi_wrapper binary is located has been mounted with noexec option.

Resolution

Remount the file system with exec option, for example:

    # mount | grep /var/www
/dev/sdb1 on /var/www type ext4 (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,quota,usrquota,grpquota,data=ordered)
# mount -o remount,rw,nosuid,exec,relatime,quota,usrquota,grpquota,data=ordered /dev/sdb1 /var/www
# mount |grep /var/www
/dev/sdb1 on /var/www type ext4 (rw,nosuid,relatime,quota,usrquota,grpquota,data=ordered)
