Upgrade failed: Unrecognized attribute 'monitorChangesTo'

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 11.x for Windows
  • Plesk 12.5 for Windows

Symptoms

During the upgrade process installation of plesk.msi failed with the following error:

"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\admin\\bin\\websrvmng.exe" --configure-plesk-website

Running this command separately results to:

Filename: \\\\?\\C:\\Windows\\system32\\inetsrv\\config\\applicationHost.config
Line number: 1099
Error: Unrecognized attribute 'monitorChangesTo'

Cause

PHP Manager is not correctly registered in IIS.

Resolution

  • Remove PHP Manager from Control Panel > Unistall a program
  • Remove or rename folder C:\\Program Files (x86)\\PHP
  • Create a backup of current C:\\Windows\\System32\\inetsrv\\config\\applicationHost.config
  • Remove all similar options from applicationHost.config like:

    monitorChangesTo="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Parallels\\Plesk\\Additional\\PleskPHP53\\php.ini"
    monitorChangesTo="php.ini"

    Note: make sure to leave '>' at the end

  • Reset IIS using the following command in Windows Command Prompt:

    C:\\Users\\administrator>iisreset
  • Run the upgrade procedure again.
