It is not possible to access service nodes in Plesk Multi Server directly using its IP addresses

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

Symptoms

It is not possible to access service nodes directly using URL like https://<service_node_ip>:8443 , it redirects to https://<master_node_hostname>:8443 URL and it cannot be resolved, because the servers are in private network.

However, access using link from a management node works fine if IP addresses are being used.

Cause

Such behavior is known as software issue #EXTPMS-1031 and will be fixed in future Plesk Multi Server updates.

Resolution

As a workaround, modify /etc/hosts file on the service node by adding line master_node_ip master_node_hostname to make it resolvable from the service node:

# cat /etc/hosts
...
10.20.30.40 pleskms.master.node.tld

INFO: Since Plesk Multi Server is centralized system to manage multiple Plesk instances it is not supposed to access service nodes directly, that is by design and it redirects to access master node. The proper way is to access them through Plesk Multi Server master node.
