File Manager shows empty content

Applicable to:

  • Plesk Onyx for Linux

File Manager doesn't show any contents, it looks corrupted. The following JSON error is shown in Firebug:

SyntaxError: expected expression, got','

There are non-UTF symbols in a directory or in a file in domain's home directory:

# ls -ld /var/www/vhosts/example.com/e?amle_file
drwxr-xr-x 3 user psacln 4096 Jul 6 16:11 /var/www/vhosts/example.com/e?amle_file

Cause

File or a directory with non-UTF symbols, like "ö" was uploaded to Plesk using FTP-client that does not support UTF-8 for connection. As a result, directory name got changed from "eöamle_file" to "e?amle_file".

This is Plesk bug with ID #PPPM-5419 , which is planned to be fixed in future updates.

Resolution

As a workaround, rename the directory to UTF-8 encoding:

# mv /var/www/vhosts/example.com/e?amle_file /var/www/vhosts/example.com/eoamle_file
