Apache cannot start: SSLCertificateFile does not exist or is empty

Applicable to:

  • Plesk 12.5 for Linux

Symptoms

  • Apache cannot start:

    AH00526: Syntax error on line 38 of /etc/httpd/conf/plesk.conf.d/vhosts/example.com.conf:
    SSLCertificateFile: file '/usr/local/psa/var/certificates/cert-xxxxx' does not exist or is empty
  • the following articles do not help to fix the issue KB#213915565 , KB #213901245

  • there are a custom virtual hosting templates in /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/templates/custom directory

Cause

Misconfigured custom templates

Resolution

  1. Rename custom templates directory /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/templates/custom

    # mv /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/templates/custom{,.saved}
  2. Rebuild web configuration files

    # /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all

Review custom templates to make sure that this is configured properly.
