Unable to connect to Plesk via SFTP: Permission denied

Symptoms

Unable to connect to FTP server through SFTP protocol. The following error is observed in /var/log/secure :

closed for user user

Cause

SSH access for the FTP user is set to Forbidden .

Resolution

Log in to Plesk in web browser and navigate to Home > Domains > example.com > FTP Access > FTP users and make sure that field Access to server over SSH is set to any available shell, for example /bin/bash , but not to Forbidden .
